If you’re a writer, be comforted; even Charles Dickens had moments of crazed writing compulsion. I’m reading a biography of his life. (Book titled The Man Charles Dickens by Edward Wagenknecht.) Here’s a quote that relieved me–now I don’t feel so crazy myself! Ha!

“He [Dickens] might be ‘wild to begin a new book’ and unable to rest till ‘settled,’ but the settling was an agonizing business: ‘Prowling about the rooms, sitting down, getting up, stirring the fire, looking out of window, tearing my hair, sitting down to write, writing nothing, writing something and tearing it up, going out, coming in, a Monster to my family, a dread Phenomenon to myself.’ ”

Oh, the life of a writer.

Happy July!
