For Writers

For Writers

So. You're a writer. Big virtual hugs.

I have a special place in my heart for you. Because, well, I'm a writer, too.

And I like you already.

I've learned a lot in the ten years I've been writing books. I've read a hundred books (and counting) on the craft of fiction writing. In the beginning, I still wrote horrible manuscripts. I got critiqued, got chopped down, hung my head (albeit briefly), pulled up my boot straps again, and got going on my next chapter, next draft.

So, for all you warriors on the writing path, I especially want to recommend my FREE ebook, FLYING HIGH: 10 Habits You Must Keep To Stay On Track With Your Goals. It was created, in part, from my own trials, tribulations, and crazed writing experiences. The exciting news? It's FREE!  I hope it can be a helpful, encouraging guide for you on your own writing voyage.

Also, writer friend, I thought it might be helpful to include some of my top recommended books on the craft of fiction writing. Every book I've ever read offers some valuable tidbit, but I have have garnered so much from these particular books below that they rank at the top of my list. They're my "go back to again and again books," and I will continue to use them throughout my writing career.

Here they are, in no particular order. Please note, this list is subject to grow at any given moment. ;)

  • Revision and Self-Editing by James Scott Bell
  • Conflict and Suspense by James Scott Bell
  • The Writer's Journey by Christopher Vogler
  • The Breakout Novelist by Donald Maase
  • Story Engineering by Larry Brooks

  • The First 50 Pages by Jeff Gerke
  • The Key by James N. Frey
