Maybe it's because I write books for teens & children, or possibly because I'm young at heart. Perhaps it's because I refuse to be physically outdone by my kids. Honestly, it's likely because I just like to have FUN. Regardless of the reason... we ripstikked together today. Oh yes, I did. Watch the video below.

(Thank you, Jacob, I love my pink & teal ripstik.)

Happy New Year to you all!

Bookfest Friday

Hey all! Here's Bookfest Friday Week 16 video!

Two books, two minutes. On this video we talk about: Free to Fall by Lauren Miller and Essentialism by Greg McKeown.

Next week is a Paulo Coelho week! I'm so excited! We're going to read his The Alchemist and By the River Piedra I Sat Down & Wept. It's my first experience with Coelho, and I've only heard good things, so this should be AWESOME. We'll get a novel and a parable all in one. (With both books!) That means entertaining reading + life lessons. WHICH I LOVE.

Stay tuned! See you next Friday!

I had the privilege of speaking at an elementary school right here in Northwest Arkansas today! I talked with the children about how we all have talents and gifts to offer the world. It tied in well with the school's SUPER HERO theme. :)

The main message I delivered was the same thing I tell my children every night: YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO DO.

It's a message for children and adults alike. Discover your gifts, give them to the world.

You have something that no one else can give.

So, in the words of Nike, JUST DO IT!

USE YOUR SUPER POWERS! DON'T HOLD BACK. GROW YOUR SKILLS! BE A SUPER HERO!

Bookfest Friday

Happy Birthday to me today! (Literally.:) To celebrate, I went on a hike with some of my favorite people. Waterfalls + early morning temperatures = awesome. Thank you, brothers, for coming into town. We love you!

In this blog, you will find my past six weeks of Bookfest Friday summer reading!

First, the video, where I tell in a sentence (or two) what I loved (or didn't love) about each book.

12 books. 3 minutes. Boo-yah.

After the vid, you will find the book list itself.

And below that, a picture of the books (and my kindle) all stacked up. Why? Because it makes me feel accomplished to have all my reading displayed in one place.

THE LIST:

Week 10: Proof of Heaven by Eben Alexander. Pip Bartlett's Guide to Magical Creatures by Jackson Pearce & Maggie Stiefvater.

Week 11: Money: Master the Game by Tony Robbins. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir.

Bookfest Friday

Hi everyone! So, I've officially decided to change the title of "Bookfest Friday Book REVIEW" to "Bookfest Friday Book TALK." Because, I realized, it is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE for me to adequately "review" a book in one minute a piece. I can't do the book any justice whatsoever. BUT. I can sufficiently TALK about a book in one minute and highlight what's at the very TOP of my brain about it. In essense, these "2 BOOKS in 2 MINUTES" videos are a skimming of a skimming of the surface. Does that make sense??? I honestly wish we could just have morning tea together and talk about a book for a few hours. That would be much more thorough. But alas, I'm here on this side of the computer, and you're there, on the other. And until we meet one day, this will have to suffice.

Now. On to this week's BOOK TALK:

So. Who doesn't love Madeleine L'Engle? She's too opinionated to ignore, too brilliant not to respect, too diverse not to love!

Watch this week's book review below on A Circle of Quiet and A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle.

BOOKS TO READ FOR THIS WEEK, (week starting Friday, June 5):

All Fall Down by Ally Carter

The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall

Another great week! Keep reading!

Watch this video for book reviews of Never Never (Part II) by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher and The Giver by Lois Lowry. (P.S. In this video, when I say part 1 of the story Never Never was "pretty graphic," I'm referring to sexual scenes/references within the book. As in, I wouldn't feel comfortable letting my teenager read it.)
